Roth Appointed Humanities Dean
Martha T. Roth, who was Deputy Provost for Research and Education from 2004 to 2007, was named Dean of the Division of the Humanities. A world-renowned expert on the ancient languages of Mesopotamia and Editor-in-Charge of the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary, Roth is the Chauncey S. Boucher Distinguished Service Professor of Assyriology in the Oriental Institute.
Chinniah Is New CFO
Nimalan Chinniah came to the University as Vice-President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer after sixteen years at Vanderbilt University. He will develop a long-term financial plan that supports significant new investments in support of the University’s academic mission, as well as oversee the administration and finance areas of the University.
Goff-Crews Heads Student Services
Kimberly Goff-Crews became Vice-President and Dean of Students in the University, providing leadership for programs and services that promote the academic success and personal development of both graduate and undergraduate students. Her portfolio includes career planning, community service, health and counseling services, dining, housing, athletics, student activities, and registration.
Levy Oversees Research and National Laboratories
Donald H. Levy, the Albert A. Michelson Distinguished Service Professor in Chemistry, was selected as Vice-President for Research and for National Laboratories. In this role, he works to advance research at the University and at Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and oversees the Office of Technology and Intellectual Property (UChicagoTech) and the Office for Partnerships and Technology.
Peterson to Communications Post
Julie A. Peterson was appointed to the newly created position of Vice-President for Communications. Coming to Chicago from the University of Michigan, she is charged with developing a strategic communications plan and overseeing Universitywide communications, including Publications & Creative Services and the University News Office.
Fithian Joins Leadership Team
David B. Fithian has been named Secretary of the University, serving as the primary liaison to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and other board members. He helps coordinate the visiting committee program and plays a lead role in managing governance of the University in order to further its long-term strategic interests.
Medical Center Taps Hefner
David S. Hefner came to the University of Chicago Medical Center as President in November 2006. With extensive experience as a consultant and health systems executive, most recently at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center at Pennsylvania State University, he helped design a management system that provides medical schools and teaching hospitals with vital management insights.
Kroll Promoted to Comptroller
John R. Kroll was named Comptroller, with responsibility for the integrity of the University’s financial records and accounts as well as disbursement of funds. Kroll first joined the University in 1982 and has been most recently Associate Comptroller for Accounting and Financial Management Reporting.
